For more than two decades, Manav Vikas has been working towards the re-ordering of gender relations to make them more just and equitable. In recent years, the results can be seen in women’s groups becoming more active in often difficult and conservative spaces and making their families and communities more equitable.
Over the year, several efforts were directed towards strengthening women’s groups by building their confidence, motivating and stimulating their moral by the provision of several vocational and trade trainings that helped them in finding ways through life and have a better living. The women supported through several ways have now started to come out of their houses and participate in the social development activities like Gram Panchayat, Aam Sabhas, Community Meetings etc. and put forward their opinion without any hesitation. The gender inequality in the areas have forced the women to stay within their house and not participate in any social or economic activities. Their opinion were not even considered at home in domestic discussions but the effort put up by the organization with all its stakeholders have changed the paradigm of the society in respect to gender inequality. The girl child are now allowed to go to school and attend higher education. The opinions of the women are included in decision making and they actively put forward their opinions in community meetings and aam sabhas.
The frequent SHG meetings organized by the SHGs have enabled the women to find many new source of income other than the traditional cropping. The women now deposit monthly savings and are indulged in several income generation activities like tailoring, handicraft, Lac cultivation, fishery, duckery, piggery etc and are making some extra money for themselves and their family. The institution has supported a lot of family with the consistent and inclusive help of government and Non-government institutions like NRLM, RSETI, BMIED etc.
The SHG members have attended 87% meetings this year and have deposited 96% of the expected deposition amount that was expected to be deposited as savings by the SHG members for their future use.
