India which is considered and known as the land of farmers contributes the major share of its economy with agriculture and allied activities. About 70% of the country’s population depend on this occupation for their livelihood. In spite of being the most important profession of all, the farmers are the most deprived as they never get the deserving sum for their product. The traditional methods of cropping and the use of harmful chemicals in farming has worsen the situation and has deteriorated the production of crops which has forced the families depending on this occupation live in miseries.
Manav Vikas has contributed in the agriculture sector by constituting the farmers by the formation of farmer’s committees in the intervention areas such that they could gather, share their opinion and could come up with revolutionary ideas and concepts that would help other small farmers and traditional farmers in finding better cultivation techniques which would help them in improving the productivity of their crop. The organization organized several trainings for the farmers like soil conservation training, SRI training, vermi compost training, rabi vegetable crop training, mushroom cultivation training, Lac cultivation training etc. to benefit the farmers in understanding the better and the modern techniques to improve the productivity of their crop in which a large number of farmers from the intervention areas participated and are adopting the techniques illustrated. The organization with the contribution of some government and non-government organizations are also supporting the farmers to find better and beneficiary allied activities in agriculture to improve their economic situation as well. Equipment and raw material for better crops are also provided to the farmers to encourage them for adopting the modern techniques of cultivation. The organization focuses on eradicating the middle man out of the system and demand and supply cycle such that the farmers can be benefited to a greater extent. The frequent organized meeting with the farmer’s committee helps the farmers in obtaining the information on the resources being provided by government to assist the farmers that can be availed by the farmers directly. The consistent effort of the organization and the stake holders have benefited many families till date. The farmers are also motivated to keep the livestock such as pigs, cows, ducks, fishes, poultry etc. to help them in obtaining some extra income other than the traditional cropping.
